In recent years, New York City has passed several new laws focused on raising standards for workers earning a living in hotels, in fast food restaurants, as security guards, and on delivery and rideshare platforms.
But these new regulations—which can help level the playing field for workers without the protections of a union or even a formal employment contract—require compliance from the employer. And across industries, those employers are fighting back, suing the government and challenging its ability to enforce these laws.
With a new mayoral administration vocally committed to workers’ rights and upholding the law, what is the future of these hard-won regulations?
In this discussion, labor leaders and DCWP Commissioner Sam Levine will talk about strategies for enforcement in the fight for workers’ rights and an affordable New York City.
